On Elvira
I’ve wanted to watch one of her shows for a while. In my past year in Chicago, I found great solice in pinball game machines in the back of corner dive bars, with the machine for Elvira’s “Scared Stiff” being my favorite. With mechanics that are intuitive, fun sounds, and a fun headboard interface, I also found that this machine was a reliable must have in the bars. You can play it for anywhere between 25c and 1$… with those prices and my lousy playing skills, I should note I have yet to beat it… but alas, I only play it when im thouroughly drunk.
I was having a panic attack and needed to take a triple threat hot bath — (edible, a glass of wine, and epsom salt) and as its October 4th thought now might be the time to finally watch what this game was about, starting with Elvira: Mistress of the Dark.
The movie sets you up with a goth comedian/stripper Groucho Marx, and their quest to make money FAST. On this journey we watch as she gets nearly raped by almost every man in the story, and narrowly escaping, or inflicting death. She then becomes a witch? and is fucking tarred and feathered? its crazy. two hours of a ego maniacal egirl on the brink of someething horrible really makes you think…
looked up the show, and subsequently the pinball game, on wikipedia. turns out the game is most known because of a last minute change of the game, taking out a mechanical monster. machine modders still add them back in using an L shaped piece of metal, a spring, and a rubber finger puppet, with kits to do this yourself on the only linked website go for 99.99$. wonder if thats the person who wrote the wiki article.. or his friend? is there a secret organization of pinball modders online? where are those forums??
anyways, i liked the movie. the villain was actually pretty scary. and the dog was incredibly well trained. wish Elvira killed everyone in the end…
